Kevin Hart was born on 6 July 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S., as the second son of Nancy Hart (died 2007) and Henry Robert Witherspoon (died 2022). Hart and his elder brother Robert were raised by their mother, who was a systems analyst for the Office of Student Registration and Financial Services at the University of Pennsylvania. Initially, after schooling, he went to George Washington High School to complete graduation. Further, he initiated his journey to the Community College of Philadelphia. 

He then moved to New York City and spent some time working as a shoe salesman. As he reached his teenage years, Kevin aspired to be a basketball player and even took part in the La Salle basketball camp alongside future National Basketball Association Hall of Famer Kobe Bryant and future political commentator and activist Marc Lamont Hill.
