The story of Sugar Cosmetics started in the year 2010, when Vineeta Singh, along with her husband Kaushik Mukherjee, started their first business together – a fashion e-commerce company, which failed due to lack of funding and experience. In 2015, the company raised its first round of funding from angel investors, which it used to expand its product line and marketing efforts. In 2016, Sugar Cosmetics partnered with platforms like Nykaa and Amazon to sell their products. Further, the company also launched its e-commerce platform. Early Life & Education

Vineeta Singh was born in the year 1983 in Anand, Gujarat, India. Her father, Tej Pal Singh, is a biophysicist at the All India Institutes of Medical Sciences. She completed her schooling at Delhi Public School, R. K. Puram in 2001. Thereafter, she got her bachelor’s degree in the year 2005 in Electrical Engineering from IIT Madras. However, Vineeta Singh IIT JEE Rank has not been disclosed publicly, but she was quite intelligent. 

Further, she pursued an MBA in 2007 from IIM Ahmedabad. During her post-graduation, she worked as a summer intern at Deutsche Bank and rejected a job offering an annual Rs 1 crore salary. Singh and the other graduate who rejected the same offer wanted to start their own business, but couldn’t as the funding was not enough.

Career of Sugar Cosmetics Founder

Singh founded her first startup in 2007 named Quetzal, although background verification checks failed to see its way forward in selling them to recruiters. Her second venture Fab-Bag came about in 2012 and is the platform through which it provides deliveries on monthly beauty product subscriptions. Sugar Cosmetics, which Singh founded together with her husband in 2012 is selling cosmetics and personal care product brands catering to the Indian market. 

Following the company’s deal with private equity firm L Catterton worth $50 million, Singh described the company’s products as appealing to the tastes of women with varied skin tones. In September 2022, after investing an undisclosed amount, Ranveer Singh became the “brand evangelist” of Sugar Cosmetics.

Further, Singh was featured on the hard copy cover pages of business magazines like Forbes India, Business Today, and Businessworld. Talking to Business Today, she explained that funding, at one time, was solely granted on Kaushik’s (her husband) full-time position – something she took as gender discriminative. 

In 2021, it was Forbes India that included the name of Vineeta in their list of notable women achievers under the header of Forbes India W-Power. In 2023, Bollywood actress Kareena Kapoor Khan joined forces with Vineeta Singh and her husband to launch a Korean skincare brand called Quench Botanics in India.
